General
Where is Wifly based and where do you operate?
+
Wifly is based in Bristol and serves businesses across the entire South West of England β including Bath, Gloucester, Cheltenham, Taunton, Exeter, Swindon and Newport. For larger projects, we work nationwide.
Do you provide free quotes?
+
Yes. All assessments and quotations are completely free with no obligation. For most projects, we will visit your site, understand your requirements and provide a fixed-price proposal. Use our quote request form or call us to arrange a visit.
Are your quotations fixed price?
+
Yes. We provide fixed-price quotations for all installation projects. You will never be hit with unexpected additional charges. Any variations to scope are agreed in writing before work proceeds.
Do you use subcontractors?
+
No. All Wifly engineers are directly employed by us β no agency staff, no subcontractors. This ensures consistent quality, accountability and continuity on every project.
Are you insured?
+
Yes. Wifly holds full public liability and professional indemnity insurance. Certificates are available on request.
How long have you been in business?
+
Wifly has been installing and supporting technology infrastructure for businesses across Bristol and the South West for over 10 years.
WiFi
What is the difference between consumer WiFi and enterprise WiFi?
+
Consumer routers are designed for home use with perhaps 5β15 devices. Enterprise access points are designed to handle 100+ concurrent connections, provide consistent coverage across large areas, support separate networks for staff, guests and IoT, and be managed remotely through cloud platforms. For any business environment, enterprise-grade equipment is essential.
How many WiFi access points do I need?
+
This depends on your floor area, construction materials, number of devices and the performance standard you need. A small office might need 2β3 access points; a large warehouse or multi-floor building might need 20+. We conduct a professional site survey to determine the exact number and placement required.
What is WiFi 6 and do I need it?
+
WiFi 6 (802.11ax) is the current standard, delivering significantly better performance in environments with many connected devices through technologies like OFDMA and MU-MIMO. WiFi 6E adds the 6GHz band for even higher throughput. If you're upgrading, we recommend WiFi 6 access points as standard β the cost difference over WiFi 5 is now minimal.
Can you set up a separate guest WiFi network?
+
Yes. All enterprise installations include VLAN-segregated networks β typically separate networks for staff, guests and IoT devices. Guest networks can be configured with bandwidth limits, usage policies, branded splash pages and time-limited access.
Do you provide a warranty on WiFi installations?
+
Yes. All hardware carries manufacturer warranties (typically 3β5 years) and our installation work carries a 12-month workmanship guarantee. Ongoing maintenance contracts are available for comprehensive support.
CCTV
How many CCTV cameras does my business need?
+
This varies significantly by site. A small office might need 4β8 cameras; a large warehouse might need 40+. We conduct a professional site survey and coverage mapping exercise before specifying any system β never a generic "camera per room" approach.
How long is CCTV footage stored?
+
We size storage for your specific retention requirement. For most commercial sites, 30 days is standard. Sites with insurance or regulatory requirements may need 60 or 90 days. We calculate exact storage requirements based on your number of cameras, resolution and recording schedule.
Is my CCTV system GDPR compliant?
+
CCTV that captures images of individuals in the UK is subject to GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018. We advise on signage requirements, data retention policies and your obligations as a data controller. All systems we install are designed with GDPR compliance in mind.
Can I view my cameras remotely?
+
Yes. All Wifly CCTV systems include remote viewing capability β via mobile app and web browser. We configure secure remote access during installation and provide training on using the viewing platform.
What resolution do your cameras record in?
+
We install cameras from 2MP (1080p Full HD) through to 8MP (4K Ultra HD) depending on the coverage distance and evidential requirements. For most internal coverage, 4MP provides excellent detail. For car parks and large external areas, 4β8MP with varifocal lenses provides the best results.
Do your cameras work in the dark?
+
Yes. We install Hikvision ColorVu and Dahua Full-Colour cameras that deliver full-colour footage in near-darkness using large sensors β no longer relying on infrared black-and-white footage. For specific areas, we can specify cameras with integrated white-light illuminators or pair cameras with external lighting.
Network Infrastructure
What structured cabling standard do you install?
+
We specify Cat6A as standard for all new installations β supporting 10Gbps at full 100m run lengths and future-proofing your infrastructure for 15β20 years. All cabling is tested and certified to TIA-568 standards on completion.
What is a patch panel and do I need one?
+
A patch panel is a termination point for structured cabling at the comms room or network closet end, allowing cables to be easily connected to switches without exposing cable ends. For any installation of more than 4β6 cables, a patch panel is essential for neat management and future flexibility.
How do you manage the installation in an occupied office?
+
We plan all installations to minimise disruption. Cable routes are agreed in advance, and we typically schedule disruptive work (drilling, cable pulling) for evenings or weekends where required. Most switch and comms room work can be completed during business hours with minimal impact.
Do you provide as-built documentation?
+
Yes. Every installation includes full as-built documentation β cable schedules, patch panel layouts, switch configurations, network diagrams and test certificates. You receive everything you need to manage and extend your infrastructure.
Can you connect multiple buildings or sites?
+
Yes. We install external fibre between buildings on the same site and can arrange leased line circuits or SD-WAN solutions to connect multiple sites. We also design and install point-to-point wireless bridges for sites where fibre is impractical.
Access Control
Which access control system do you recommend?
+
For most UK commercial applications, we install Paxton β specifically Paxton10 for IP-networked systems. Paxton is the UK's most-installed access control brand and offers an excellent combination of reliability, ease of use and competitive pricing. For enterprise and high-security applications, we also install HID Global systems.
Can staff use their smartphones instead of cards?
+
Yes. Paxton10 and HID Mobile Access support smartphone credentials via Bluetooth and NFC. Staff can use an app on their iPhone or Android phone to access doors β no card needed.
What happens during a power cut?
+
Access control systems include battery backup on door controllers. Depending on the system specification, this provides 4β24 hours of operation during a power failure. Doors can be configured to fail-open (unlock) or fail-secure (lock) in a power failure depending on your fire safety and security requirements.
Can access control integrate with CCTV?
+
Yes. We regularly integrate access control and CCTV systems β allowing the NVR to record a snapshot every time a door is opened, or to trigger an alarm camera when a door is forced. This provides a complete audit trail of access events with associated video evidence.
How do I remove access for a leaver?
+
Instantly and remotely β from any web browser. In Paxton Net2 or Paxton10, you simply find the user and either delete their credentials or mark them as inactive. Their card or smartphone credential is immediately rejected at all doors. No lock changes required.
Managed Services
What does a managed service contract include?
+
Our managed service contracts include 24/7 network monitoring, firmware and security patch management, helpdesk support (business hours standard, 24/7 on premium tiers), monthly health reports, annual on-site review and SLA-backed response times. We offer three tiers β Essential, Business and Enterprise β to suit different requirements.
What is your response time?
+
Response times depend on your service tier and issue severity. Business and Enterprise tier clients receive a 4-hour response for P1 (business-critical) issues. All clients receive same-business-day response for non-critical issues. On-site response is typically next business day for non-emergency issues.
Do you monitor equipment you haven't installed?
+
Yes β with some caveats. If your existing equipment supports SNMP or the relevant cloud management platform, we can onboard it to our monitoring platform. We will assess your existing infrastructure and advise on what can be monitored.
Can I cancel a managed service contract?
+
Yes. All our managed service contracts are 12-month rolling with 30-day written notice. We do not tie clients into multi-year contracts.
Do you handle vendor warranty replacements?
+
Yes. As part of managed service contracts, we manage hardware fault diagnosis and warranty replacement claims on your behalf β saving you the time and technical knowledge required to deal directly with manufacturers.
